Lemme just get straight to it. How do you feel about a one-sleeve top or dress? Or is it called one-shoulder? Only one-shoulder if it’s sleeveless? Weren’t we calling it a sarong a few years ago? So many QUESTIONS!
Hell, I don’t even know what to call them, let alone begin to explain my complicated relationship with them.
Complicated relationship? Well, that’s probably taking it too far. It ain’t a Toni Morrison novel.
I have designed, made & sold countless one-sleeve tops & dresses in my time.
But there’s a part of me that still, after all these years, thinks maybe one-sleeve fashions are a novelty.
All drama & flash with little substance.
The proverbial “nothingburger”.
Sure, they fall in and out of trend just like anything else. And one dramatic sleeve can be quite beautiful & flattering on a gal with a beautiful clavicle, neck, or shoulders. With Michelle Obama arms.
But what’s a boobalicious chic supposed to do with the errant bra strap? A strapless bra? Really? Have we ever found one that can do the job without rolling, rolling, rolling? More questions…
Ah, maybe that’s the real deal. Maybe its one of those things you like for other people but not for yourself. Because prior to the last few years your clavicle was buried beneath a layer of fat and your arms are still too chubby flubby to draw constant attention to.
Not your chubby flubby arms.
My chubby flubby arms.
That sounds like a personal problem, eh? Not one I should project all wily nily onto the fashion industry at large.
So I hereby declare one sleeve wonders are wonderful.
I do prefer them with a full kimono style sleeve, tho.
Here are some of my all-time favorites.
