Hot Toddy Break

January 31, 2020 by Laura Leave a Comment

Well, I guess I needed a lil’ Winter break.
In January I still made and ate some freakin’ phenomenal food.
I still re-purposed and hawked some killer vintage clothing.
But I didn’t feel like rushing to photograph everything.
Document EVERYTHING.
Having an online “journal” can be the most creative fun, ever, right?
But when it begins to feel too premeditated, some of the creativity is stifled. At that point it begins to feel disingenuous.
Reclaimed isn’t about getting Superbowl party appetizers nailed down and photographed months in advance so I can bust them out on Pinterest in plenty of time to get plenty of clicks.
Why not? If it increases my audience, expands my reach?
The only Superbowl party I will be having is a party of 3, featuring my man and my sleepy dog. And two days before, I am still not sure about the appetizers. Something on sale when I venture into the crowded grocery store tomorrow? Yup. Something cheesy? Hell ya.

Sleepy Nuggie

But that’s as far as I’ve gotten. And in the meantime I’ll continue slurping down a hot toddy or two.
In Central Florida we don’t get ice and snow, of course. But it has been gray, windy, with countless ne’er-do-wells coughing their flu-ridden germs in my general direction.
My Easy Hot Toddy will soothe you, with or without the shot o’ bourbon included.
Make it.
And let me know how this Winter is treating ya.

Easy Hot Toddy

Quick 1 serving recipe for Hot Toddy
Print Recipe Pin Recipe
Servings: 1
Course: Drinks
Ingredients Method Notes

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz Bourbon or other "brown likka" of choice
  • 1/2 Lemon Juiced (or to taste)
  • 1.5 oz Warm Apple Juice or Cider
  • 3 oz Warm Brewed Tea of choice
  • 1/2 tsp Honey (or to taste)
  • Star Anise, Lemon Slice, Cinnamon Stick as garnish

Method

  1. Combine all ingredients in a mug. Adjust to taste & let that warm toddy goodness work its magic

Notes

I love the addition of star anise and a cinnamon stick.  Just remember that a little star anise goes a LONG way.
I used apple juice as pictured because it is what I had on hand.  Apple cider is even more delicious & healthful.
For non-drinkers, simply omit bourbon.
