Granddaddy of the all, aka my all time FAV
I’ve been obsessed with all things tooled leather since childhood. Had a great buddy in first grade whose name I cannot conjure now for the life of me. But I vividly recall the mane of strawberry blonde hair that framed her waist and the spate of tiny freckles that framed her eyes. They both so entranced me that I will refer to her as Freckles Berry Berry from now on. Why not?
Her 8th birthday party was horse themed & there Freckles introduced me to my first (& only) horseback riding lesson ever. Actually mine was a pony named Tilda. Funny how I can recall the pony’s name without issue. Probably because I was petrified I would surely break Tilda’s back if I climbed aboard.
We both survived, barely.
And I remember Freckles’ fam gifted her with the most fabulous hand-tooled leather saddle.
It had her name carved into it, was her immediate pride & joy, & I had never seen anything more ornately beautiful.
That is until I began thrifting. Tooled leather was easily & economically found in the Midwest, and I began amassing my collection.
I have been a loving collector & purveyor ever since. This vintage sampling is available in the shop now. And they are going FAST.
Lucky for me, I just found out there’s a beginner leather crafting class near me. So I shall bite the bullet & see if I can bring my own leather crafted love to fruition. I’ll let ya know how things go. Ain’t gonna lie. I am a little intimidated by the prospect. But I gotta try, right? Tooled leather for errryone!!
